Domestic ViOLENCE & Sexual Assault
Our Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program was initiated to respond to the critical need for culturally and linguistically responsive services for victims and survivors of domestic violence, teen dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in the African immigrant and refugee communities in the New York metropolitan area.
Through our partnership with the Family Justice Centers and the Richmond District Attorney’s office on Staten Island, victims and survivors of violence receive language specific support in environment. Our direct services include but are not limited to the following;
- Crisis intervention and emergency assistance
- Individual & group counseling
- Referrals to shelters and for immigration legal assistance
- Legal Assistance
- Court accompaniment & advocacy
- Interpretation & translation
- Comprehensive case management
In addition to our direct services, Sauti Yetu engages in community-wide prevention efforts, such as community engagement through forums, public service announcements (PSA), ethnic media (online, audio and hard copy) and social media. Over the past 10 years, we have partnered with community members, leaders, institutions in the community such as the Council of African Imams, and ethnic associations such as the Gambian Society, and The Senegalese Association to list a few.
